Senior Service Designer | Design Research | Service Strategy
Senior service designer with 5+ years of experience across healthcare, financial services, and public infrastructure, and an MA in Service Design from SCAD. Grounds each engagement in field research, then translates insights into service concepts, prototypes, and implementation plans that teams can sustain. Recent work includes redesigning the consent journey for India's national financial data-sharing infrastructure, reducing drop-off from 40% to 5%, and leading research for a mixed reality certification system for Mayo Clinic.
Introduction Letter
Dear Ziba team,
I'm Pallavi, a service designer who pays attention to the small moments where a service either holds someone up or lets them down. You asked about favorite services, so here are three that have stayed with me.
Greyhound. A friend of mine had been up until 3 a.m. handling a family emergency back in India and slept through her alarm for a 7 a.m. bus. When I called, it was ten minutes to departure and well past the window to change her ticket. I was ready to hear the policy read back to us. Instead, the agent listened and rebooked her at no cost as a one-time exception, all within a few minutes.
No supervisor, no back and forth. He had room to be human, and he used it. That kind of room shouldn't depend on luck. It can be designed.
UPI soundboxes. In India, small shops keep a little speaker that announces each digital payment out loud the moment it arrives. The shopkeeper, juggling a line of customers, never has to stop and check a phone, and the customer hears the same confirmation. One small box settles trust on both sides of the counter. Having worked on India's financial data-sharing infrastructure, I love how much one simple detail carries.
A recruiter's email. After five interview rounds, the day I'd been told to expect a decision came and went in silence. Before the week was out, the recruiter wrote to say they knew waiting was hard, that I was still in the running, and that I'd hear about next steps within a week. That one message took the anxiety out of the wait. I didn't get the offer in the end, and I still think highly of that company. Every service has a waiting room, and how it feels to sit there matters as much as the outcome.
What ties these together, for me, is that each one got it right for the people on both sides: the agent, the shopkeeper, the recruiter, and the person waiting on them. That's the kind of work I'd love to do at Ziba.
Warm Regards,
Pallavi Borkar
Experience
The Connecticut Death Collective • Service Design Consultant
04/2026 - 08/2026
Mapped the service ecosystem across grieving families, end-of-life doulas, and community partners, identifying eight revenue opportunities spanning existing programs and new offerings.
Designed and facilitated co-creation workshops and support frameworks that helped doulas manage the emotional demands of their role and gave grieving individuals more structured support.
Led roughly 60 surveys and research sessions that informed a website redesign and the operating model for donations, volunteer coordination, and service delivery.
SCADpro x Mayo Clinic • Research Lead
05/2025 - 08/2025
Led a 10-person research team within a 22-person interdisciplinary team, scoping a brief to rebuild Mayo Clinic's Basic Life Support certification in mixed reality for 400+ nurses a year and only 28 evaluators.
Planned and led field research at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville. Observing live assessments revealed that certification is a team effort rather than a solo test, which shaped a CPR-first scope with responsive virtual teammates.
Translated findings and AHA standards into measurable requirements for a custom manikin and portable kit: 60% more compact, with layered foam that replicates real chest resistance and sensors that track hand placement, compression depth, and rate for the VR-enabled assessment, in 50% less space.
Finarkein Analytics • Senior UX Designer
10/2022 - 08/2024
India's national financial data-sharing infrastructure: a regulator-mandated, multi-stakeholder system connecting citizens, banks, and insurers.
Identified through research that a 40% mid-journey drop-off stemmed from a lack of trust rather than navigation. Redesigned the consent journey around staged, plain-language disclosure, reducing drop-off to 5% across a journey supporting ~70% of India's insurance ecosystem and earning three SamvAAd awards.
Designed a self-service dashboard for viewing, pausing, and revoking financial consents, and a conversational tax-data flow that reduced a 3-5 day manual process to minutes.
Partnered with product and engineering across four workstreams, delivering build-ready specifications and edge cases so services launched as designed.
Earlier Experience
06/2019 - 10/2022
Cisco and PLVI Studios (UX design): restructured enterprise workflows to reduce time-on-task by 65%, and led UX across 20+ client projects in multiple industries, achieving 95% CSAT. Earlier work in visual design (Pluto Ventures) and architecture (AA Architects).

Selected Projects
Patients recovering from chronic illness alone face their highest-risk window in the first 30 days after discharge, with no supervision, no support, and a system that assumes someone else is watching. I designed a three-role care system: a human navigator, a volunteer network, and a companion device, to close that gap.
