Global Fintech Fest (GFF) is one of the world’s largest fintech gatherings, bringing together 65,000+ attendees from over 100 countries at the Jio World Convention Centre in 2023. In this high-energy, high-noise environment, interactions were frequent but fleeting. This project explored how engagement could extend beyond the booth by reimagining a familiar event artifact the lanyard pin as a wearable, AR-enabled touchpoint that remains visible, hands-free, and easy to revisit, demonstrating how designing for after the moment can extend post-event engagement.

Large-scale events generate high footfall but low recall attendees leave with cluttered brochures and visiting cards that rarely translate into post-event engagement.

At Global Fintech Fest 2023, Finarkein Analytics participated as an early-stage startup alongside major players like Meta, Google Pay, Amazon, CRED, and the Reserve Bank of India each backed by far larger budgets and promotional scale.
Rather than competing through spectacle, the challenge was to stand out in a high-footfall environment through intention, not excess and create engagement that lasted beyond the event.
This is what an average attendee looks like after first 20mins of such a conference…

Rather than competing through scale, giveaways, or spectacle, the approach focused on designing a single, intentional touchpoint that could stand out through meaning and memorability. The goal was to create something attendees would wear, notice, and revisit without adding to the physical or cognitive clutter of the event.

How about a notepad & a pen so atendees could take down notes during the seminars? or a bag to carry all the flyers & goodies other might give away?

The organization team had already taken care of note taking and the bag just did not click...so HOW do we stand out?

After discarding a few obvious ideas, past experience of organizing events helped surface a familiar pattern that guided the next step.

This was a three-day event where every attendee wore a badge on a lanyard from start to finish. Anything attached to it naturally traveled with them back to their hotel or home creating a moment of rediscovery beyond the event. Designing with this journey in mind helped shape a direction that extended engagement without adding effort or clutter.

The Solution: Designed for Rediscovery
The solution was a wearable, AR-enabled pin designed to attach to the event lanyard. Integrated into something attendees already wore throughout the event, it stayed visible, personal, and easy to revisit. When scanned, the pin enabled post-event engagement during moments of rediscovery extending the interaction without adding clutter, setup, or friction.

Constraints sharpen design decisions. Working without the option to compete through scale or spectacle pushed the focus toward clarity, restraint, and intent.

Designing for behavior over time matters. Considering what happens after an event led to designing for rediscovery, not just first interaction.

Fewer touchpoints can create stronger recall. A single, well-placed artifact proved more effective than multiple promotional materials.

Embedding into existing flows reduces friction. Designing within what attendees already use increased visibility without adding effort or clutter.

Impact doesn’t require excess. Thoughtful placement and timing can create meaningful engagement even in high-noise environments.
