Overview

ARKA was developed as part of a 7-day startup challenge at SCAD focused on The Future of Interaction. Working within extreme time constraints, the challenge was to identify a meaningful interaction gap and translate it into a compelling product concept supported by design rationale, market thinking, and a clear pitch narrative.

Our team explored the wearables category, questioning whether current health technologies truly integrate into daily life or simply add another layer of management. ARKA emerged as a response to fragmented health tracking reimagining wearables not as devices, but as intelligent, responsive clothing that supports health in real time.

Despite the rise of wearables, most health trackers rely on user discipline remembering to wear them, sync data, and interpret dashboards. Even then, insights often remain passive, disconnected from real-world action.

The Approach

The Approach

Instead of designing yet another wearable or app, the approach focused on rethinking the form factor itself. We explored how health technology could live closer to the body embedded into something people already wear while remaining unobtrusive and intuitive.

This led us to question the role of clothing as an interface. Clothing is constant, personal, and already adapted to the body. By treating fabric as both sensor and system, ARKA positions health monitoring as a background experience one that supports users without demanding attention.

To communicate a future-facing yet human vision, the final pitch assets leaned into a retro-futuristic visual language, blending bold contrasts, soft forms, and layered data cues. The goal was to make advanced technology feel approachable presented as part of the body rather than external hardware.

Under tight timelines, the team iterated rapidly moving through multiple drafts to prioritize clarity and coherence over perfection. The final deliverables included a poster, pitch deck, and information booklet outlining the concept, feasibility, and market potential.

Learnings

Learnings

Focus beats breadth. Covering multiple use cases diluted clarity; a single, well-framed application would have made the idea more compelling within a five-minute pitch.

Every pitch needs a clear ask. Articulating what support is needed funding, mentorship, or validation is as important as explaining the idea itself.

Constraints shape communication. Time limits reinforced the importance of simplifying the narrative and prioritizing what truly matters.

Outcome aside, the learning mattered. The experience strengthened future pitching by sharpening focus, intent, and storytelling.
